a “real Dutchie” or not... And yes, I can confirm that I was born and raised in a small city near Leiden, the Netherlands. Would you like to hear my story of how I became a Dutch language teacher?

2006-2012
University Years
I studied Dutch Language and Literature, completing my Bachelor's degree in Leiden followed by a Master's program split between Amsterdam and Berlin. During these six years, I developed a passion for research and presenting to fellow students, graduating with honors and setting the stage for my love of language education.
2012-2014
Academic Research Phase
Right after graduation, I began a PhD project called "The Riddle of Literary Quality," working to objectively measure literary quality using computer models. Despite enjoying the research and conference presentations, I felt something was missing and wasn't truly contributing to society.
2014-2016
Health Crisis & Reset
I experienced burnout in June 2014, spending three months bed-bound before attempting to return to my PhD. After six months of struggle, I made the difficult decision to quit my academic career, dedicating 2016 to focusing on my mental health and discovering my next path.
2017
Teaching Career Launch
Following an epiphany at the end of 2016, I began teaching Dutch to foreigners at a language school in The Hague. I quickly started my own language school, developing unique teaching materials and organizing engaging Meetups that combined language learning with fun activities like cinema visits and dinners.
2019
YouTube Journey Begins
Noticing that my students consistently made similar mistakes, I published my first YouTube video addressing common Dutch errors. This sparked a new passion for creating entertaining educational content, marking the beginning of my journey as an online "langtrepreneur."
2020
Online Course Collection
I expanded beyond YouTube by creating my first comprehensive self-study course, "Dutch for Beginners," which launched in early 2020. This success led to the development of multiple additional courses, allowing students worldwide to dive deeper into Dutch language learning.
2021-2023
YouTube Milestones
My YouTube channel reached significant milestones: 50,000 subscribers in October 2021, followed by 100,000 subscribers in November 2023, earning me the coveted YouTube Silver Play Button. Today, reaching more than 150,000 subscribers, I've built one of the largest Dutch learning platforms online.

Owner
Kim
Kim is a passionate educator with a background in linguistics and years of experience teaching Dutch. Her journey began with a love for languages, which inspired her to create engaging and accessible content for learners worldwide. Through her innovative approach, she has helped countless students master Dutch in a fun and interactive way. Kim believes that language learning should be enjoyable, practical, and tailored to real-life situations. Her mission is to make learning Dutch possible for everyone. She combines storytelling, humor, and clear explanations to make even complex grammar feel simple. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to polish your skills, Kim’s courses are designed to build your confidence and keep you motivated.

Fleur
Language nerd, pun wizard, and NT2 teacher since 2011. Fleur lives in Leiden with her fiancé and works as Head Dutch Instructor at a language school. Since 2023, she has been helping Kim by reviewing her fantastic teaching materials, and now and then she also writes texts for her courses. Super fun, because Fleur and Kim have known each other for almost 20 years
— because they studied Dutch together! They have much in common, including their love for sunshine and nature. Fleur always says: “It’s always spring in the eyes of NT2 teachers”…! ;-)

Estelle
Estelle doesn’t live in the Netherlands but in sunny Málaga, Spain. So she’s not just Kim’s video editor—she actually started out as one of her followers! In October 2022, she began learning Dutch. Why? For love. Her boyfriend is half Spanish and half Dutch. During one of her holidays in the Netherlands, she also fell in love with the country itself!
Estelle has been working as a video editor for 7 years now. She mainly edits
